I'm enrolling the the Delayed Entry Program in the Army. I am 5' 2" and fluctuate between 173-179 lbs. I need to drop 50 lbs in one year. Is there a recommend routine to lose these 50 lbs at a moderate speed? Any exercise daily routines?

Losing weight is like 70% diet. I lost 60 lbs. in a year following weight watchers. I liked it because you can still eat mostly whatever you want, just watching your portion size. It was very easy to follow. I also walk or ride my bike every day.50 lbs. in a year is a very achievable goal. I am sure whatever diet you follow will work if you stick to it,weight watchers worked for me,and if I did it anyone can! Good luck!

My mom needed to lose about 25 pounds. She reached her goal with weight watchers and just eating normally. I recommend weight watchers because it teaches you how to eat right and enjoy life. First off, even though diets like "Jenny Craig" and "Nutrisystem" may work for some, it's very expensive, the food looks gross, and once you stop that diet you go back to the unhealthy way of living. Please believe me when I say it isn't what you eat, it's how much of it. For example, you and your friends are going out for ice cream. So instead of getting a big sundae with cookies, hot fudge, and a bunch of sugary toppings, JUST GET ONE SCOOP IN A LITTLE CONE. Cut out all of those fried fast foods like chicken fingers, fries, hard-shell tacos, etc. Also cut out all those greasy meats like hamburgers, hotdogs, pork, and bacon that are not only bad for your weight but extremely bad for your health. I suggest eating whole grain cereals, pastas, and breads instead of starchy white food groups. Portion is everything so make sure you are having 3 healthy meals a day with 2 or 3 snacks. Try to move towards things with fiber and good nutrition value. If my mom can do it, I know anyone can. For breakfast you can have an egg white omelette with cheddar cheese and some fruit. For lunch you can have a lean turkey and slender cheese sandwich on wheat bread and some vegetable soup. For dinner you can have a piece of lean chicken with a salad filled with vegetables with light dressing on the side and a baked potato. You don't have to have tofu and diet foods for every meal but it's important to cut back on empty calories and red meats. Trust me on this. It's hard to get back on track at first but once you know what you're doing you can really accomplish your goals. Also take long walks outside with a friend. Whoever thought that exercising had to be a pain was wrong. If the weather isn't nice then you can run on a piece of exercise equipment for a half hour. I suggest buying an eliptical or a stationary bike just so you don't have to run to the gym. Also stretch before you walk so you won't pull any joints. I also suggest doing a few crunches on a yoga mat or a big exercise ball. You don't have to kill yourself to lose weight. It's all about eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're not. It's also about exercising 30-60 minutes a day for a healthy lifestyle. If my mom can lose 25 pounds in about 4 months, then you can lose 50 in a year. You just need confidence and perseverance and you'll be fit in no time. I really hope this helps. Stay strong and good luck (:
