The only kind of exerice I do is walking, and it does not help me lose weight, only maintain weight, which is fine but I want to trim my thighs, do lunges help with this or just make thighs muscular and large? If so, what is a good way to start doing lunges?

If you do it without weight, you'll basically thin them down, with weight you'll gain muscle, but loose fat, and it will tone up. In most cases you loose 5+ inchs off the thighs with leg press, squats, lunges, and such, most people only gain that 15 inchs back with sups and extreme training.

lunges do help build muscle, they help you to loose weight because they elevate your heart rate and make you sweat. The only way to loose weight is to get your heart rate going, walking does not work because you are not working out hard enough. To do a lunge correctly you must go down deep in your lunge make sure your knee does not retract out over your toe. Keep your back leg straight, and your body in an upright position, squeeze your glutes when you come up, and repeat other side. Most important thing is to make sure your knee does not go out past over you toe, you will strain it!
