im still a young teenager but during puberty, i gained a lot of weight through eating and now im overweight. ive started daily runs with my brother but my main question is:how do i slim down big calves?i know there is some fat in my legs but i also have big muscles which i dont believe is genetic since all females in my family arent muscular; nor did they used to be.will daily runs held rid the fat in my legs and make my muscly legs even more prominent?what can i do to slim them down?thanksxx

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Cut back on sugars and starches. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drink green tea will increase metabolism. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day. Count your calories, very important. The following site will help you lose weight by eating right: http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm

Running is good for getting rid of fat but it also builds muscle which may as you said make your calves more prominent seeing as they're already chunkier. I'm not really sure what to say.....try not to focus on excerises that are hard on your legs too much. i.e. if you run every day of the week and do weights on your legs you're just going to make the bigger. This is a really good website I use: http://www.nowloss.com/It's got tips on anything and everything. Post questions as well and you'll get a reply really quick. I don't know if you go to a gym....but if you don't why not try it. Ask one of the personal trainers there if they can help you out a bit :)Hope this helpsx

Hey unfortunately I don't really have much good news for you on this... I've been on a diet for around a year and should be reaching my goal weight in a couple of months max... I'm 5'9" and so am proportionally larger than other woman, and my calves are the same. I've managed to lose 10 inches from my bust and hips, and around 7 from my waist however my calves have always been a sore point for me. I never had hang ups about my legs til I saw photos that pushed me into my diet, they're not excessively fat, but even with my dieting I've only managed to lose half an inch from them. They're mostly all muscle now too, so I know I probably won't experience anymore loss in the area... I would suggest that if you just diet sensibly and become more active you can become more comfortable with the way your body looks. Try and aim to get your BMI to around 25 and the re-evaluate how you feel with yourself. You also need to take into account your body fat percentage, as you may just be a very muscular person to begin with. Right now I'm very happy with my body, and although I wish my legs were a little slimmer I know that they work fine and also that it's something so small and silly that I'm just being paranoid. Remember that the circumference of the average calf is about 15" (thats the width of most knee high boots) so if its below that then you're ok. If like me you suffer with large calfs don't worry, if you build lean muscle then they won't get any bigger, and they will be firm which is really what you're after! Good luck!!!
