I have a heart monitor for aerobic exercise. Recently I've noticed when I'm running trails that my heart rate actually goes down going up the hills. I'm 45 and my aerobic zone goes up to about 160. If I go over that, I do have to slow down so I try to keep it between about 135-160. Usually between 150-158. I'm in OK shape but not great. I'm 6'2", 200 pounds and can jog a 5K in about 26 minutes.I've had a stress test and contrast scan that shows my Framingham risk to be lowest possible category.Should I be concerned that when working hard my heart temporarily slows down? It does go right back up to 160 after a few seconds.

It sounds like your heart rate monitor is not perfect at making the measurement. Usually your heart rate goes up when going up hills. So, it may have something to do with the monitor. In any case, the worry is causing you more stress than the event. I would not worry about it and just feel secure in the knowledge that you are doing good things for your future.
