I am 7st 11lbs and eat healthily, but I'm quite unfit. I've recently started jogging and running to improve my fitness and I'm finding that I keep getting aches (not painful) and palpitations in my heart between exercise sessions. Is this normal for someone who is starting out cardio after years of doing very little in the way of pulse-raising exercise?

This isn't supposed to happen - it s a sign your heart is stressing out a little. My other half told me he was running the other day and got a sharp jolt in his heart and thought "Right - slow it down or keel over!" - and he's mega fit!Be careful, listen to your body.

Possibly heart murmer? Best to get checked by doctor.Good advise to slowly build up to ---start by walking consistently.I'm up to an hour on my recumbent bike----only took a month. But I do hope you see a doctor----chest pains, even minor, should be checked! Pain could also be from heart burn---excercise can cause a little of that.Good luck!

Palpitation from exercise? Very unlikely unless you're not exercising within your target heart rate.See, this target heart rate is the rate at which you work out hard enough but not too hard as to cause injury or discomfort to your body, esp. your heart. The best test for target heart rate is that you still can carry on a conversation while exercising. Here's a more detailed guide on how to determine your target heart rate: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/target-heart-rates.htmlAs for aches in your muscles, that's normal when you just start out bec your muscles reacting to the workout. However, if the aches persist, then it might be bec you don't do a proper warm-up and cool-down.Always warm-up for 3-5 mins before your cardio and cool-down for 3-5 mins, after your cardio.
