has this worked for anyone? i quit in february of this year but i'm thinking of starting again TEMPORARILY to control my cravings by reaching for cigarettes instead of junk food. i've quit a few times already for long periods, so it won't be a problem for me to quit again. i guess it worked for me before since i wasn't as heavy when i was smoking as i am now.i know i should exercise and diet and stuff but i don't know how to get rid of the CONSTANT cravings for food, especially sweets. i eat healthy and exercise BUT those sugar cravings are getting worse and this seems to be the only way out for me. it's better than alcohol or pills, i mean what other way is there to control these VIOLENT cravings i have??? |

I really want to stop smoking. My aunt was heavy and wanted to lose weight so bad. She did.....after extensive chemo and radiation for cancer. She died thin.

Have self control!!! It's about discipline. If you think you can or can't do it....either way, you're right.

no. n-o. that doesnt make sense. so in the quest to do one thing good for your body u are going to do a bad thing to it. that makes no sense and u shouldnt do it.smoking is so much worse then a couple of extra pounds. im sorry, but you are just going to need to lose weight the way everyone else does it. i kno dieting and exercise is hard. noone like situps and pushups and all those tedious exercises. join a program that makes exercise more interesting and fun. try eating low fat. yes, everyone loves Haagen Daz (number one fan speaking here) but insted eat the haagen daz sorbet. its not as good but it should help keep down cravings. Eat a low fat version of what u normally eat and ull lose weigt slowly. smoking kills not only you but everyone around u and 200 thousand ppl die from tobacco smoke who dint smoke. dont contribute to that. everyone knos smoking is OD OD OD hard to quit. even when and IF you lose the pounds, u r still going to continue smoking. dont do it.

If you have the willpower to quit smoking, you have the willpower to "quit" junkfood!... just think of how gross you'd look fat or something like that to suppress your apetite. Also try changing the bulb in your fridge to blue, appearently it just turns you off of all the food you see

i would love to be in your shoes, i want to quit smoking so bad, it just has such a strong hold on me. if i were u i would not start back. i would try something different. i would like to know how you quit smoking so easily and how are u so sure you could quit again so easy if you start back. if you do start again and loose weight then what are you going to do when you stop smoking and you gain your weight back. you sure dont want to smoke the rest of your life just to control your weight. good luck

You'll just bounce back and forth between the two addictions. Stop smoking > crave food. Stop binge eating > crave smokes. There is no "temporary" fix; you just exchange one for the other... and rationalize that surely this time you'll be different so it's okay to start again. Though you weren't the last time: "it worked for me before" -- well, it didn't work or you wouldn't be facing this now. .... "it won't be a problem"... well, it IS a problem. BOTH are problems. If you can't control yourself, distracting yourself with better things to do, reasons why you don't want to indulge either addiction, etc -- then I would suggest seeking help. Therapy, support group, anything where someone knowledgeable but more objective than you are about your own behavior can give you support and insight and advice.

It will suppress your appetite while you smoke, but your appetite and the weight will come back as soon as you stop smoking again, so I don't think it's a realistic approach. You have to live with the reality that non-smokers are on average 15 pounds heavier than smokers. I think you'd be better off exercising, which seems to be the best way of keeping weight off long term and might reduce your cravings to boot. Also, check your weight against the ideal weight table -- I have no idea where you sit but I was just reading that a large percentage of thin people think they're too fat even though the weight tables say they aren't.
