I have read a bit on the program but I'm still not sure it's worth the money. Apparently the food isn't so great. What is the average weight loss in a month? I was to lose 10 pounds. How long would I have to be on the diet?

I can't tell you that I've actually used Nutrisystem but what I CAN tell you is that I lost 30 pounds without it. I did some research into this because, I, too was interested in the Nutrisystem diet - but I was skeptical. So what I did was shopped my grocery isle for frozen dinners that had the right balance of foods - and what I discovered was that the grocery store has more choice at better prices. My favorite is the Lean Cuisine turkey and green beans. Just watch your carbs, cut out your sugars like pop and candy and you will loose weight if there is not any physical reason why you can't [like a Thyroid disorder]. If you get a sudden craving or an urge that seems to be too difficult to overcome, drink a large glass of water or your favorite sugar free beverage. I also walk. Exercise is important but it doesn't have to be mundane or difficult. Just walk. Enjoy the out doors. Smile Another good book to get is Sugar Busters. I know it sounds hard sometimes, but I was diagnosed as a diabetic four months ago and in that time I've lost 30 pounds because I've changed the way I eat. Don't think of it as going on a diet, think of it as a lifestyle change that will prolong [and in some cases SAVE] your life.Good luck! And if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at mukappababe@yahoo.com Smile.

I started Nutrisystem in Sept 2007 wanting to lose at least 70 pounds. I was 5'8" 250 lbs at the time. By May 2008, I had reached my goal. So it did work for me. There are several reasons I think it worked for me. It is a very defined plan, pretty easy to follow if you are committed to doing so. If you are cheating, you'll know that you are cheating and cant justify to yourself hat what you're doing is not 'really' cheating. To someone who has always been a big eater like me, the prepackaged, predefined portions (for what they provide) seem like they wont be enough. Over time you learn that they are enough, that it's what a 'normal' person would eat. In fact with the add ins they allow, some days I found it hard to eat it all. I was rarely left without 'something' to eat when I was hungry (or just felt like eating). The plan has you eating at least 4-5 times a day, but you can spread out bits and pieces to eat even more often (which is what I did). So I always had a piece of fruit or a low fat string cheese or something to snack on when the urge arose. Lastly the ability to get support and advise not only from their professional counselors and nutritionists online (and reatively anonymousey) was good, but more importantly, using their online bulletin boards to connect with people or groups for advice and mutual support. There are always lots of people there who have aready been thru it to give advise and many people who are right where you are in their effort to share with.On other personal decision I made when starting to diet this time, was to weigh myself no more than once a week. In the past when I've dieted I tended to weigh myself every day. If the scale didnt move for a day or two, or wose yet went up 1 day, I would get discouraged and start to cheat which would lead to giving up. This time I held fast to once a week on the same day at the same time. While many people do plateau on any diet, over my 8+ months following the plan strictly there was only 1 week where I didnt lose at least a pound. The loss started fast then settled into a nice 2lbs after a few months. At the very end it was closer to 1 to 1.5 lbs a week, but I think that is to be expected. From what I have seen from posts by others on the plan, individual results do vary significantly. There are a group of us who started around the same time. Some had more to lose than me and some had less. Everyone in that group has lost significant weight. A few more than me and a few less than me. Some like me have reached their goal, others are still working to get there. Some of the food it awful, but some of the food wasnt too bad. It takes a little time to get used to and to figure out which are the items you want to include in your monthly shipment. If you want to just 'try' it, you can probably find some NS meals at biglots (if there is one near you), or people are always selling lots of NS food on ebay. If you do that, try to pick one that comes with a daily planner. The daily planner shows you how much of what type of grocery store food to 'add' on top of what NS provides.Good luck
