| Rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 180 pound person. A heavier person will burn slightly more calories. So, probably 9 miles to burn 1000 calories. If you increase the speed you walk, the distance required decreases. |

a long time. two hours of hard core swimming only burns about 800 calories so i'd say you have to walk for 4 to 5 hours to burn 1000 calories.you should get dance dance revolution.it's a video game that tells you how many calories you are burning while you dance. it takes me about and hour to burn 600 calories but i don't even notice because the game is so fun. |

| Get a Ped-O-Meter at Wal-Mart, they're cheap enough. Calibrate it with your length of stride, your weight and the time of day. It's surprisingly accurate and one display setting on the device shows calories burned [ but note that the calories count will be higher if you immediately check the reading after putting in some miles, and rapidly decrease if you take a break ] I find I "burn" around 170-180 calories covering 1.3 miles in 40 minutes. If I walk all day, off and on, my burn rate will approach over 2,000. |

| I have a BodyBugg which tells me how many calories I burn. I have lost a lot of weight, over 70 pounds. When I was at your weight I would burn 10 calories per minute if I walked pretty fast. If I didn't exercise at all I would burn about 2400 calories. If I walked 20000 steps in one day I would burn about 3500 calories for the day. There's between 2500 and 2700 steps in one mile depending on your stride. At your weight it is easy to burn 10 calories a minute walking to upbeat music. It's way easy to burn even more calories per minute doing DDR on Difficult if you add some arm movements. If I work out for one hour on DDR and take a 20 minute walk I burn 1000 calories. DDR burns calories and you can do it for a long time. I once did DDR for 2 hours. I recently got Turbo Jam videos and the easy work out burns 8.5 calories per minute and the intense burns about 13 but I can't keep that up more than 10 or 15 minutes. The secret is to just move. Walk around the house when you talk on the phone. One time I burned 600 calories talking to my mom for 40 minutes on the phone. When your mom goes to the grocery store, go with her and walk up and down all the aisles. If she shops for 40 minutes and you keep walking at a quick pace (not running, just a brisk walk) you will burn about 500 calories. If you load the bags into the trunk, take the cart back to the front of the store and ask her to let you bring in all the groceries from the car by yourself you will burn even more. Even if you stand up while you watch tv and step touch at an easy pace you will burn 200 calories while watching a half hour show. As you lose weight you will lose less from those easy moves but it's still worth it and you won't need to burn 1000 extra calories every day when you are at a healthy weight. In short, it's easy to burn 1000 calories walking even though I see some people online say that it's not. At 260 lbs it takes between almost 1 hour and 1.5 hours depending on if you walk quick with a spring in your step and your arms moving or if you walk slow with little extra movement. Music makes all the difference for me. I hope you have an MP3 player.Good Luck!PS Don't forget that as you lose weight you need to cut back the calories to keep losing. It happens faster than you may realize. Try lowering your daily caloric intake to 2600. |
