I'm generally healthy... I eat healthy, don't smoke or drink and haven't been ill in years. I don't exercise enough though, especially as I work from home in front of a computer. I don't want to lose weight but just feel I should be exercising more.I'm not into sport and would like to take something up that will clear the mind as well as benefit the body.So what shall I take up? What's the difference between the various types? I was thinking Yoga may be a good place to start but isn't that just more for toning rather than getting fit?Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Also, what would be the easiest way to learn from home using books, DVDs etc? I may take lessons at some point but just haven't got the time right now.

if you try a martial art that would put you in perfect shape, clear the mind, and gives you something you might actually use in the future.

Pilates and Yoga are pretty similar, they both are intended to help tone up muscles. However, yoga (in my opinion) is slightly more 'relaxing' and you don't have to completely push your body to the limit to see results. I'd take up Yoga first, Youtube is crammed full of videos to help you out, and there are plenty of DVDs around too.Edit:I think the easiest way to learn is by using DVDs. Don't get me wrong, some books are great - but you can't see what you're supposed to be doing, whereas with DVDs the trainer tells you and shows you exactly what you're doing. I used to have this DVD (until I lent it to my sister and never got it back!): http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=31 7809You don't really NEED lessons either, they are useful, I went to two, but I find them very 'slow-moving', I prefer to work at my own pace, but you should try them out sometime in the future, lessons may be for you!Good luck.

Whichever one feels most comfortable and a pleasure to practice. No point punishing yourself as that I feel defeats the object of these all worthwhile practices.
