I have many cousins that do yoga and pilates and they all look great! My question is, is one of the workouts, yoga or pilates, more effective? I've done some research and i found yoga positions and my cousins have lent me some pilates videos. I tried the videos and to be honest i see no results. I'm starting an exercise regimen now.5 times a week I go on the treadmill for a 40 minute intervalevery other day I do an ab workoutalthough there will still be 1 or 2 days that are empty and i want to fill them with either doing yoga or pilates.Any help would be greatly appreciated.come on it's an easy 10 points!&&+ Bex

Really depends what you want.Pilates will give you quicker results for toning a floppy stomach, but I've found strenuous yoga (like Ashtanga) gives far better results over all (flexibility, toning, and shaping) but takes a lot longer. It took me 2 years to really see results from yoga, and I did a formal class for 10 hours a week! But boy were they great results! My upper arms were amazing!

Yoga is done more to increase your flexibility and to relax. You do stretching, breathing exercises, positions, etc. For a workout definitely do pilates. There you do ab workouts, leg and back workouts, as well as stretching and breathing exercises. It's hard seeing results yourself, because you don't really notice your body. Try weighing and measuring yourself about twice and weeks to compare results. Good luck!

It's difficult to make sweeping claims as to which is more effective when there is basically only one style to teaching Pilates, where as there are dozens of Hatha yoga styles (some quite different than others). If you are going to be self-taught (that is, follow instructional videos or books), try both and do whichever you enjoy more. You're more likely to stick with it that way. If you are going to seek instruction from a teacher, my opinion is finding a quality teacher you enjoy is more important than which activity you choose (unless you are clearly drawn to one over the other). With both activities, you may want to try several teachers, and with yoga you may want to try several styles.
