For the last 5 months I have been lifting weights at a high weight low rep and I went from 185 to 210 pounds in that time. However I noticed I gained a lot of fat around my mid-section along with the muscle and the six pack I use to be able to see is gone. Now my plan for the next 5 months is to do low to mid weight and high reps to tone my body and I usually do about 40 minutes of cardio on top of that a day when I didn't do any before. So far it's been working out great but my question is since I'm in college sometimes I go without food for 6+ hours unintentionally and I'll eat when I'm really hungry and I heard your suppose to have small meals no more than 3 hours a part. I'm afraid I won't loose the fat and i'll loose the muscle I gained. Any tips? How can I best avoid the starvation mode and take full advantage of my metabolism? So far I've been eating fruits, salads, fish, and protien supplements. I also use a fat burner too.

start reading labels and dont eat foods that contain saturated fat or white flour. for example, instead of white bread go for the brown bread. instead of eating white rice, only eat brown rice. get the picture? eat a lot of tuna, salmon, broccoli, and WHOLE GRAIN foods. also try to get more fiber because that will keep you fuller longer.

buy some protein drinks and bars and carry them around you when you can't eat. the protein will help you with muscle and prevent your body from going into starvation mode.
