Im 16 years old and weigh 261 pounds. I went to my doctor about a year ago, and had him check me for diabetis and other things. Everything came back normal. He told me to watch my portions, cut off soda and walk more. I didnt believe him. I could never get motivated. Until the fall I got motivated and lost some weight. Now im really motivated. The past week ive been walking 30 minutes. Today I walked an hour. My brother was in my shoes a few years ago. Until he started walking. He lost like 20 pounds in 2 months. He didnt do any "special diet" or nothing. Just walking and watched his portions. He didnt even eat 5 small meals everyday. My mom did the samething to and lost weight rapidly. Only she didnt walk, she just watched her portions. The pounds shedded off of her. Im getting a treadmill in 2 weeks. I plan on walking 2 hours a day. When I brisk walked all this week, my shirt was damp from sweating. Its very cold here too so I was bundled up very well.My doctor said he doesnt believe in diets. He said at my age all I needed really was more excersise. As I have problems with school. I have no friends, so I stay home all day long. Before this, My weight was pretty good. I started to get fat when I just sat around all day and slept in every morning until 1 am.I MEAN EVERY MORNING UNTIL 1 PM* lolAnd believe me, on my moms side everyone is "heavy" and on my dads side were "heavy" but big boned. We weigh alot more than we really look on my dads side. And my brother takes my moms side, and hes really chubby and lost weight, which was fabolous! Where me I am a lot more big boned and dont look as much as I weigh.Once my brother started losing weight, it came off rapidly.

Dont look at the word diet as a temporary thing that you need to do to lose weight. Look at diet as a general term you use in your lifestyle to eat healthy and get good physical activity. Diet should be a lifestyle consistent thing. The mind can play tricks on us to over portion our food. Measure out servings...keep a food log even if you arent trying to lose weight. Figure your bmi and subtract that from the calories you eat in a day. When that adds up to 3500 calories then you've lost a pound.

Portion control and exercise will absolutely cause you to lose weight. It is the safest way and the best way for your health. The lack of both is usually what causes us to gain weight and become overweight.Keep up the good work. You will be at your goal in no time, don't get discouraged, it does not always happen as quickly as we want it to.

There is exactly ONE and only ONE way to lose weight, burn more calories than you consume. If you eat 2000 calories a day and only burn 1600, you will gain weight. If you burn 2000 calories and consume 1600 calories, you will lose weight. Count calories and exercise. You do not have to "diet" as such, but you should consult a nutritionist for advice so you will eat well balanced meals. Combine balanced meals with some exercise and then if you consistently burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. There is no substitute for counting calories if you are determined to lose weight. And then, all it takes is some will-power to stay on track.
