If she can cut out all sugar and white flour that would account for a lot of it. That means no pasta unless it's whole grain, no white bread or rolls, no white rice, no pizza crust, ect.

Last year I did Atkins and lost 60lbs from August 1 to Dec 15.Buy the book and do it correctly. It's more than not eating bread. Not every diet works for everyone, This one worked for me.Good Luck.brief explanation of principle: http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.js p?requestURI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/atkins_diet.jsp

Well-please remind your mother that losing 1-2 lbs a week is healthy...so hopefully she doesn't have unrealistic and unhealthy expectations. Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig are both great weight loss programs, it depends on your mother and what works better for her. WW you go to meetings and every food in the world has a point value. Each person gets a certain amount of points to eat in day depending on current weight/height etc. Jenny Craig, you go to one-on-one meetings with a person and buy every meal you eat each week. It is pretty pricey but takes out all the guess work. Losing weight is tough, wish your mom luck for me. And please don't tell her to fast or cut her calories down to 600!!! That is horribly unhealthy!!! Her body will go into starvation mode. 1200 calories is the least amount of calories for any adult to consume!!

Get an excersise video like pilates, because it's all static stretching and muscle control, which slims rather than builds up. Cut out desserts, don't eat a whole lot of fruit, breads, etc. Drink water!!! Drink a lot of water!!! It can help cleanse the system and if she drinks a glass of water fifteen minues before a meal, it will help her fill up faster, so she'll eat less, but feel like she's eating the same amount. And drinking a lot of water will make you feel better, hydrated, etc. Cut down on proportions, and watch calories. Try not to go over 1500 calories a day. That will mean you loose basically two pounds a week, and to loose it any faster is dangerous. Good luck!

This would be easier to answer if you explained why she needs to lose 40 lbs in seven months. Anyways, if you've ruled out ALL medical conditions (thyroid problems, etc) the solution is simple; You must consume LESS calories than you burn. There are websites which tell you how many calories you burn doing various activities for various amounts of time. (even breathing or watching television burns a FEW calories) Figure out how many she's burning and how many she's eating. Then, either increase the number she's burning or decrease the number she's eating. Smile Sounds simple, but it requires commitment like most other things in life. Again. If she is already eating in a healthy way, and is still overweight (I assume this 40 lbs is going to be a healthy weight loss?) RULE OUT ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS!

Eat less and exercise more to burn off energy. Two simple facts, you cannot put on weight if you don't eat plenty.Second, the food you eat gets stored as fat if you do not exercise to burn off energy.Any weight losing consultant will take your money and force you to eat less and do exercise. Alternatively she can do it herself and not pay anyone anything.

I am thin. I don't eat three meals a day. And I have seen many people too busy to have decent means more than 1 time all day. However, skipping meals does not assist losing weight either. Someone who wants to loose weight must eat little on daily basis. And excercise with frequent brakes will burn up the extra and build muscles.
