That is a very good amount of time to allow for her to lose 40 lbs. First of all, she must drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Her calorie count should be between 12-14 hundred per day. She should cut out all white foods and replace them with whole wheat products. Eat plenty of vegetables, but not white potatoes. Get the portion sizes correct. Eat 5 small meals per day. Instead of sweets, she should eat fruit and last but most important she should do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise everyday.

The obvious is always lower calories, exercise and drink plenty of water. Don't skip meals (it supposedly lowers your metabolism). You don't have to do body cleansers but adding fiber sure or metamucil is good for the diet (the extra fiber helps you to feel more satisfied and it helps the body get rid of cholesterol and cleanses the system) I've also gotten hooked on Ocean Spray unsweetened 100% Cranberry Juice (dilute juice 1 oz juice to 8 oz of water) the cranberry is a diuretic (water weight) but it's also good for cancer fighting agents (read it in a few mags and saw something on Oprah)and it also helps for pms & cramping because of the flushing of excess water. Fresh Garlic, don't remember what it does but it was part of a natrual healthy eating thing. Well that's enough to hopefully help on a start

I tried the Biggest Losers diet which was printed in a magazine. My mom says that have website too. You might want to check it out but basically it was fruits and veggies, whole grain rice and beans and very little of anything else... I lost four pounds the first week. It was great.

If she is serious; that is a reasonable goal.1) Go to a gym.Sure you can run on your own but most of us are not that committed to run in the rain snow and cold. The gym is a constant temp and the weather is not a factor in working out. 2) Start counting calories. Most good gyms will do a fitness eval and get you started on some good food choices and a calorie goal. To really know what you are taking in you need to count calories. This will also get your portion sizes back to normal. Eat 6 times a day about every 3 hours to keep from getting hungry and to keep the body working.3) TrainingEveryone needs weight training AND cardio; no matter what their goal is. I myself do 30 min of weigh training and 60 minutes of cardio at a heart rate of 150 average.Consistency kick intensities azz every time thats why the gym helps so much.4) Learn to enjoy itThis is the most important. Learn to enjoy going to the gym. Consider it like a reward for your body putting up with your lazy habits. Work out and learn to enjoy the feeling. Learn to look forward to the gym because it is a completely selfish time. Turn the phone off, relax and let the world just disappear while there.
