Go see a chiropractor or talk to your family doc of referring you to one. You might've pulled a muscle, but if the pain never leaves you...Could be a subluxation of your spine.

Walk, dont lift just yet. Walk for a good hour & do it again later in the arvo. Walking loosens me up if I have a sore back.

You should definitly not work out today, it only dangers you to force your body more which can make the complaints worse & more serious trouble. Your body is sending a message with this pain, so relax for a couple or days till the pain has dissapeared.Probably you forced some muscles around the backspine with lifting heavy boxes. When I've a lot of pain in the back it helps for me to take a warm bath (not too hot, as it will bring more pressure on your muscles, while we try to relax them) If you don't have a bath, try a warm shower or a warm wet towel which you lay on the places where it hurts. Sleep on your back, this can make a huge difference in the morning! If this still doesn't help you can also try a painkiller (simple like aspirine) it makes the muscles a bit more weaker, so less tension. And if you smoke, try to slow down, smoking brings extra pressure on the muscles... I can advice you to try, for me it works, the next day I feel ten times better.
