Ok, so about 6 months ago I got really burnt out on the bar scene and going out all the time and just stopped going. I don't drink otherwise so my alcohol in take stopped. About a month later I realized that i was losing weight...I figured it was from not drinking all the rum/cokes. I hadnt changed my diet AT ALL. I was about 145 and 5'5'' when i start losing. Now i'm that height and 128lbs. The problem is i'm still losing weight. Rapidly now. I've lost 10 lbs in a week. I've tried to up the calories in my diet a little bit by adding some healthy foods into it. (Not adding cals by junk and candy) and I'm STILL losing. What could be the problem? Its getting to the point where people are saying i'm too skinny and i'm starting to feel the same way. Do you tihnk its time i check with my doctor or should i let it go for a little while longer and see what happens?

Well Sarah, let me first explain you the criteria of determining either a person is under-weight, over-weight, obese or normal weight. It is called BMI (Basal Metabolic Index) that entirely depends on a person height and weight. Normal range of BMI at which person is considered as normal weight is 18.5 to 24.9, if your BMI comes less than 18.5 it means you are under-weight and need to put on some weight. If it comes greater than 25, it means you are over-weight or obese and need to loose some weight to be at normal weight. In your case (145 and 5'5''), BMI comes as 24.1 and at 128lbs, it is 21.3 means you are still in the normal range of weight according to your height. And if you have lost 10lbs more, means now you are 118lbs and BMI for this weight is 19.6, so don’t worry about getting under weight or skinny. You are quite well and fit for your height. You can manage healthy weight by eating properly and doing exercise regularly. Although, eating habits varies in response to your emotions, your schedule, your hunger, and your proximity to food. If you eat foods that are good for you and get regular exercise, you won't necessarily be thin but you will be healthier and probably happier. But, if this weight loss is persistent and you are still losing weight and the color of the skin and the lack of energy are the symptoms that you are observing along with excessive weight loss, then go and see your Dr because it can be the symptom of any other health problem. Hope it will help you. All the best! For more information on weight loss, please read this article.
