Go to the site below to figure out everything about calorie intake for weight loss, etc. There are calculators for everything you need. Walking is a great way to help you burn off extra calories and weight. I'd start for 20 minutes, 3 or 4 days a week, and work up from there. Good luck!

I think you should take in 2000 calories a day. I also think that walking will help you lose weight. you should walk at least 2 times around your block per day and 5 days a week. to be honest with you i am practically in the same kind of situation that you are in, i mean i am 15 years old and i weigh 140 pounds. tiffanybasham18@yahoo.com

Good for you! Most of all you will need patience and persistence.Diet and exercise are BOTH essential.Diet: Keep a food log for a week and determine how many calories you are currently taking in. You need to reduce your intake gradually. Go to Shape.com (see below) for a reasonable eating plan. Your eventual goal will probably be between 1500 and 2000 calories a day. BUT more important, where are these calories coming from? Learn to choose calories that are nutrient-rich--for example, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat. Choose one food a month that you want to eliminate, and one food a month that you want to add (for example, eliminate french fries, add frozen berries).Exercise: Shape.com also has workout plans. The key is, do more than you are doing now. If you aren't doing anything, try walking 15 minutes a day three times a week. Gradually increase the duration and the frequency. Other options include dancing to your favorite music, and I like the Gazelle (see below). I do it while I watch TV; I'm up to 20 minutes a day three or four times a week.Good luck, be patient with yourself, don't give up.
