depends on how much you eat... exercise is good for burning off fat and for building muscle but only diet will help you lose weight - remember muscle weighs too!

muscle tissue is not heavier. it just takes up less space. a pound is a pound, whether it's fat or muscle. still if you never do cardio & incorporate some now, your fat percentage should drop, but it may not be visible to the eye at first. i'd definitely make sure to do measurements and that will help you to track your loss.good luck!

Lifting weights is actually better than cardio in terms of energy burned (calories). With cardio, you only burn energy while you are doing it. So if you are running, you only burn calories while you run. On the other hand, you burn energy while lifting weights as well as during the recovery time. This means while you are relaxing in your favorite chair, your body is not burning any energy after the run but will continue burning energy after having lifted weights. Now increasing the acutal pounds per lift will build more muscle and cause you to gain weight, but not the bad kind. If you are interested in burning more calories, do more sets (or reps) at a lower weight and this will help tone your body. Running does have its advantages and will make you a more well-rounded athlete, but does not burn as many calories in the long run.You also have to pay attention to diet. Fewer sugars and sodium, more water to keep you full. As a weightlifter you do have to consume more carbs but these will be the first to burn during any workout. I also suggest a daily vitamin supplement to be sure you are not cheating your body of any vitamins.
