honestly, it is his body and it is his choice. No one can force him off the couch, or force him to eat healthy foods. Sometimes some people need a scare to show them how serious it can be. I know your worried about him, my sister is obese, and im worried too. But the more i say she looks fat or she needs to loose weight, the more she rebels. They know they are overweight, and despite what they say, they are scared. But sometimes the best method is to try to compliment him and make him feel good about himself, ask him to walk with you- not for HIM but for YOU. if he doesn't then you can't prevent that. Be supportive, don't yell and lecture, or call him names, but try to be a support system. I tried the yelling, and it doesnt work.

I don;t know if you get any progranms from teh discovery channel or the learning channel in the US, but they had a great show the other day about a morbidly obese man who had to lose weight, they showed his whole life and the struggle he went through. please check The learnign channel website inthe US and perhaps you can get him to see this show. it made me want to lose the little bit I have to ..it might be an inspiration .. He's probably addicted to junky food.. it's really is addictive the sugar and fat. After that documentary maybe he will convince him to eat more veggies and fruits

He actually sounds like he is trying. He lost weight and gave up smoking. Give him a hug - that is awesome! Why dont you do something fun together, like go down the beach together every morning. It would be fun, get him fitter and let you two bond. Its summer and school hols soon - have some fun with your dad - I know you love him and he loves you too
