I am 14 years old and at the moment I am running between 10 and 15 miles a week on a treadmill at 9- 10 km/h. Each day this is 1.5 miles (20 minutes). How much more should I be eating in order to cater for this kind of activity level? I feel very tired afterwards and I am eating only around 1000 calories in a day (cutting out all 'junk food' with the exception of some processed meals throughout the week.)Thanks.Will I be gaining a lot of muscle from doing this, becuase after 9 weeks of this routine, I have only lost a couple of pounds (I was not heavy to begin with 5'5'' and 109 lbs) but I was expecting to lose more weight unless the muscle weight was making up for the fat loss.

The exercise is fine, but your diet is the part that is leaving you taxed. Make sure you are getting a few servings of fruits and veggies. Also, get enough protein. Try to eat at least 60 grams a day. protein will help you recover, and it doesn't have a ton of calories.

Running does build a LOT of muscle, but, treadmills give you a really false sense of what you can do because the treadmill is doing much of the work for you. If you started running outside (or on an indoor track) you would probably get tired much faster, run much slower, BUT, lose more weight more quickly!Exercise is good no matter how you get it done. 1000 calories is probably too low for someone who exercises, and only weighs 109lbs. Your body may be holding on to calories because you aren't consuming enough.
