Whey protein is good for after a workout because your body needs the protein to produce muscle growth. Since you're trying to lose weight my advice would be, try eating 5 to 6 small meals a day to boost your metabolism. (Make sure it's not junk food). Drink plenty of water. Start a cardio program for at least 30 minutes 4 to 5 times a week. You can walk, jog, bicycle, skip rope, etc. Also light weight training is good for muscle tone and muscle burns away at fat. Good luck.

Waste of money because you're planning on losing weight and not building muscle. Protien is used to build/repair and recovery of your muscles.

Of course, utilization of protein powder whilst on a diet can be of great benefit. It offers the protein component your body requires accompanied by a very low calorie content. Whey protein isn't going to make you fat, it can't, if your just using a protein then the calorie content will be extremely low. All in all, continue to use!
