| I have been biking 3.5 miles a day for 3 months now. I have never had a regular excercise routine in my life until now. I love it! I hope to lose weight but so far that is going slow. It is only helping my legs and hip areas thus far. Will I eventually lose weight in other areas such as my stomach and abs? or will I simply develop large leg muscles instead? (note: I can't walk or run for excercise due to some back pain, but biking suprisingly doesn't hurt at all)Once again, I will not be running or walking (or climbing) because of back pain that I have. Biking for some reason does not bother me) |

| biking is a sport just as any other and will help you lose weight. You will probably even out soon. maybe you should throw the routine around a little bit and jog one day and cycle the next. |

| While you've done well to embrace cycling as part of your life, it might be a good idea to change the routine. One's body adapts to certain exercises after awhile, and a change would up the anti. There are a few ways of doing this:Try increasing the duration of your rides during the weekIncrease your rpm (aim for a faster spin in a lower gear ratio) - "spinning" is a good cardio & leg toning workout. And ride up some hills as well.On the weekend go for a long & steady paced ride - choose a scenic route which can take 1hour or more to complete. It's a great way to improve your endurance & explore your local area as well. And some core training wouldn't be a bad idea either. Exercises like the plank, crunches or pilates would strenghten the underlying muscles in the tummy area. And of course exercise isn't everything - a well balanced eating plan is needed as well, if you want to tone up.Good luck and try to remember cycling is not just about being healthy, it heaps of fun to do as well.'Life is better on a bike"-------------------------------------------------edit - i have a bit of a weak lower back & too find that cycling on a bike with the perfect "fit' is so much more easier on the body than running. |
