| You should be doing about 70 PRMs. Many exercise bikes have a meter that shows this. |

| I think you are aproaching this the wrong way. Instead of setting your bike at the hardest speed (I think you mean highest resistance setting here, correct?), and trying to get to a good speed, you would do better aerobically by setting your bike to a resistance level where you could comfortably maintain 60-70 RPM (and burst to 90 RPMs for short intervals) to start, and then you can increase the resistance as you become more fit/stronger. This way you get full aerobic benefit right from the start. The best way to determine RPMs is to pedal for a minute or so to get to full speed, and then count the revolutions for 15 seconds. if you multiply that by 4, it gives you your RPMs. if you make note of the MPH at your target RPM rate, you can then use that to monitor your workout easily.By the way, if what you are really trying to gain is leg strength, you would be better off doing squats or leg presses. A bike is really an aerobic / endurance exercise device more than a strength building device, though it will build some strength.Good luck. |
