So its Spring here and the conversation at work always veers to gym-talk. What gym do u go to, how many times a wk do u go, bla bla bla. Ppl look at u weird if u say u dont go to the gym.Im not jealous or anything, im slim and i get exercise without paying for some ridiculously expensive gym where Im stuck with other sweaty ppl. Why is it so fascinating to hear about other people's gym habits? Why is it OK for people to point out if you are unhealthy when you dont go to the gym? Whats their problem? When did it become OK for ppl to know what I do to become fit? Does anyone else think that the health and fitness industry is ripping people off by their high membership prices?

I too - don't go to a gym and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I just go jogging every morning or sometimes at night if I'm feeling too sleepy.I just love when fat people tell me how and what I should be doing to stay fit.My bf on the other hand goes to a gym because he swims - he really has no choice.

Yes the Gym is a rip off. You could just go for a walk or something. Iwent clubbing on friday and danced for 4 hours non stop that has to be a more fun way of getting excersise.Ill stick with wine, fun and no gyms thank you

My daughter, size 8 - 10 has asked me to buy her a membership to the gym for a year as part of her birthday present when she will be 22. When I asked her why, as she is fit, healthy, eats a balanced diet and has no weight issues she replied 'everyone goes to the gym, thought I would give it a whirl.'I used to go to the gym quite often, but after a few months, when I was how I wanted to be, I found maintaining my new firmness quite hard without the exercises my body had become accustomed to. So, I am no longer as firm (hard leg and arm muscles) but I am not heavier either, so I am quite happy. I was almost ashamed of my rock hard thigh muscles when I used to go, it put my husband to shame!!I think it is just another gimmick to get your money from you when as you rightly say, there are many more ways to keep fit and healthy without paying for the use of machinery. I have two dogs, walk them twice daily and am as fit as a fiddle without biceps like Popeye - and quite happy as are you.......Smile

I agree it is apparently abnormal now not to be a member of a gym but 1. they are expensive2. I prefer outdoor exercise (which is free)3. Gyms are depressing boring and smelly.

I have to say I think my local gym is great value. I have been going for nearly 10 years, gym, swim and health suite is only £27 a month. This also includes free attendance at as many classes as you want. At one time I was Bodypumping 4 x a week as well.Since I go about 24 times each month that is only just over £1 a session, hard to beat in today's world! When I reach 60, which is closer that I would like, it is all free.

I do go to the gym, because I like to keep up a certain level of fitness and health. But I know what you mean about high gym prices and the type of people you talk about. As a Nurse I hate these la de da gyms that cost a fortune in annual memberships because I always advise patients to excercise, train more, be healthy, and these bloody snotty gyms are pricing people out of it! It really gets on my nerves! Gyms should be simple, clean buildings, affordable to everyone, with some cardio equipment and some weights, it doesn't need to have bloody spas and nail salons in it! (You bloody women are to blame!)And on the subject of people, I cannot stand those posers who go to gyms but don't train in case it ruins their hair or make up, and use them to lunch with their friends, get their nails done and sit in the spa!!!!! Aaaarrrgggh!!!! Get that bloody stick out of your arses and get a sweat on!!!
