Yes, I've seen runners carry their water-bottles in a strap around their waist. Maybe would be a good place for keys and a cell phone too. Of course those that are really into running try to minimize what they carry.

I am a serious runner and I do not carry water. It's annoying to. I have ascics, but Mazinos are good too. It all depends on your feet. I pronate and have runners knee and tendinitis in my tibia, so I have orthopedic inserts (which I wouldn't advise a beginner to get since it would most likely be a waste of money unless you're hard core running or have serious foot ailments) and I have to wear stability shoes, which I would recommend to anyone since it has the least effect on your joints; less likely to have an injury. Clothing, If you're a girl wear spandex or those nike running shorts which you'll find at models. There is a pocket in them that can hold small things, like keys and money. I would not recommend a pouch. In all honesty they look really weird and weigh you down when you run. You probably aren't going to be making any phone calls and unless you're stopping somewhere you could probably leave your wallet at home as well. You should also have a watch to time your workouts. Eat a banana before you run;l you lose potassium when you sweat. That's it. Best of luck to you.

I am a long distance runner, and I know this sounds a bit pathetic and crazy but I never drink water while running. Drink when you are finished-it actually helps me push myself. When running, try not to stop often because it is more difficult for you to regain the same pace you were running. Also, when you feel short of breath stick your chest out because this helps your body receive oxygen better. You can wear just simple gym shorts and an old T-shirt. I don't bother much with the fashion. I am out there to win, it's not an appearance contest.Eat plenty of bananas in order to prevent side stitches, they also carry a lot of potassium which will benefit you. Avoid drinks such a Gatorade because they carry much more sugar than what you'd expect them to. Drink water, water, and even more water. Eat a simple diet full of proteins and whole grains. You can pick up running shoes at the mall-and Foot Locker has some great deals. If you ever get into racing, then make sure you pick up some shoes with spikes, they really give you grip through tough courses. If your cell phone has a clip along with it, simply hook it on to your shorts. You can wear one of those bags if you wish to.I tried to sum up a few things in a very blunt way. Otherwise, I could go on forever. : )Good luck with everything!

well, as for the water, i rarely carry one, i just fill up starting an hour and a half before hand and drink lots, or i bring a small water bottle that fits easily in my hand so its not like a big burden while i'm running. but generally, don't bring a water bottle. and as for the other little stuff like your phone and wallet as you said, if you're wearing tight enough shorts, lol, you could stick it in the band of them and maybe get a clip for it and it should stay there...i've done it. lol. and for your ipod if you have one, they make those nice things that wrap around your upper arm to set it in so u don't have to carry it. and for clothes, i usually wear something pretty close to my body and less is more. not as in underwear......but like little shirt and shorter shorts. and start out for the first few days going a bit of a shorter distance at a bit of a slower pace. but if you get pretty tired, just try to keep going and try not to start walking. jog if you have to. and i love nike shoes, i have some nike air shoes with cut outs in them, so my feet don't get hot. and on the bottom of the shoe, its not all connected, it goes in a zigzag of being connected with the rubber, if that makes sense, so a large portion of inbetween those zigzags is cloth, the inside of my shoe. i know that makes no sense, but its really ultra flexible from the first day u get them, and i love them. hope i helped!

I was in the exact same situation about a year ago. Now I can run flat out for about 5 miles. It takes a lot of dedication, but it's about the fastest way to get in shape. Start out slow. It's gonna hurt when you're first starting out, because you're calves and hamstrings are gonna have to get stronger. I would say start with jogging about 1 mile, or whatever you're comfortable with. Then give your body a couple of days to recover. When you're not sore anymore, then run again. Also, being hydrated before you start running is very important. Drink some extra water about 12 hours before you are gonna run. If you do that, then you wont really need to carry water with you. Get some comfortable running shoes, and loose fitting clothing. Keep a log of your distances and try to run at least 2 or 3 times a week. Stretch lightly before and after you run. Always do a warm up and cool down too. Just walk a while before you start running to get your muscles warmed up. Stick with it and it gets really easy to run several miles without stopping. Don't worry about speed so much when you are just starting out, just keep going. Good luck!
