If I want to work out my muscles, do I HAVE to run or bike or do some sort of cardio first? Or is just stretching ok?

Stretching is best before and after. Actually if you want to do both, it's better to do cardio after your weight lifting. Just remember if you are working out with weights it's best to do it every other day.

stretching is not a work out, its a warm up you actually have to stretch after you have ran a little so that your muscles have warmed up, then go into cardio and stretch again after your work out.

Never skip the cardio. Stretching prevents you from hurting yourself, but cardio (meaning 'heart') gets your heart rate up so that you can burn calories and warms up your muscles so that you can get the most out of weight training. If you skip the cardio, you're just shortchanging yourself.

Stretch before and after the cardio. Warm up and cool down. |

cardio gets the heart rate up and warms up the muscles, tendons and ligaments. all you need to do is a light 5-15 minutes before resistance training. stretching cold muscles is the best way to injury yourself, it also does not prevent injury during exercise or athletic events this has been proven time and time again through real world results and medical study. stretching should be performed at the conclusion of exercise when the muscles, tendons and ligaments are warm and pliable.
