| I have read that trying to do both at the same time conflicts because during a weight loss program one is in a catabolic state while conversely when undergoing a muscle building program one is in an anabolic state. However, I am not overweight or obese and am not serious about losing fat. What I would like to do is maybe adopt a long term strategy and make good gains in muscle while slowly shedding fat. What kind of cardio or other excercise would I have to do to achieve this. Also what should my diet consist of? I do not want to engage in a heavy muscle building program and put on a lot of undesirable fat. Advice from somebody with expert knowledge would be preferred. |

| if you are thinking long term, for cardio try the treadmills or if you like running around your neighbourhood, you can do that as well. That way you are bound to keep the fat off.. as for the muscle aspect, there is no need to be on a heavy muscle building program. When at the gym, just lift weight that you can do at least 3 sets with while using 7only 75% of your strength..As for food, just stay away from junk foods and extremely fatty stuff and oily as well.. |

| Mary said it well. Go for running and weight lifting. Avoid fried foodstuffs and eat plenty of protien. Barbecued meat is good. Make sure you have a good veggie intake, especially the green ones. |
