You don't burn that many calories in a day by exercise. The trick is to eat what you need and use it. If you eat too much is when you have to worry because it has nowhere to go but "storage".

possibly cut down on the amount of callories you are eating, that seems like a lot to have to burn off in one day, unless your fulltime job is running

Do your BMR go to about.com type in BMR. Do the formula find out how many calories it takes just to function. Then add your activity level to it. Then subtract 250 or 500 from it. You don't want to lose more then a 2 pounds a week. You will get saggy skin... When they say burn more then you eat. When you work out you burn calories throughout the day. So you end up burning more then you eat if you count calories correctly.

your resting metabolic rate burns about 1400-1700. get a heart rate monitor and do high intense cardio for a couple hours and you should reach about 2100.

I know this sounds different from what you are expecting to hear, but weight lifting will really help you lose weight. You need to make sure that you are targeting major muscle areas, that is, don't just focus on your abs by doing crunches or your bicepts by doing bicept curls. The more muscle that replaces the fat will enable you to burn more calories as you are resting. You do not need to just get on the eliptical for an hour or run for an hour straight because your body will eventually adapt. One thing I have done is 4 timed ten minute intervals on a bike. I will increase the settings every 45 seconds with a 15 second resting phase then do the whole thing over. You get about 40 minutes of this in and with the weights your body is getting a great workout! Running and swimming are also good but don't just do cardio, this wont do much after you become more consistent. My advice, stick to exercises such as front squats, pull ups, push ups, lunges, bench press, leg lifts, etc. Anything that feels hard (truly) and makes you really sweat will help you lose weight quickly. Stay consistent and eat well (lots of veggies, fruits, lean meats such as chicken). You will not get bulky, this is a common misconception. Push yourself outside of those "girly" boundaries and you will be pleased with the results.
