| I have just started going to the gym (was basically sedentary for a while before this), and I think the elliptical is the best machine for me because it doesn't aggravate my shin splints, but I need to figure out an effective workout. For the past two days I've done 30-35 minutes at the lowest resistance and height, and have kept my strides/min to around 150. I was sweatting a lot and felt like I was getting a decent workout, but a lot of things I read on the internet were saying that using ellipticals on low resistance is pretty much worthless, and I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time.Does anyone have ideas for a good weight-loss elliptical program that won't kill me (so I can actually stick with it this time!) Thanks! |

| I hate those machines, they're so pointless. You won't stick with it, sorry. |

| Next to swimming, elliptical exercise is one of the best ways to get a good cardio workout with minimal impact on the joints! Your workout sounds like a good plan. I recommend keeping a log of your intensity, time, resistance etc. Monitor your target heart rate to make sure you're in the "fat burning zone". You can usually find these online and make sure you stay in that zone. After a week or so you'll notice that it's easier to get to that zone...you can then raise one of your parameters. Time would be the first one to raise. See if you can get to 45 minutes first. Then you can increase your resistance. One parameter at a time, about 1 every week or 2, so that you don't injure yourself. When you keep a log it makes it that much more exciting to see your progress and more motivated to reach your goals. Best of luck to you! |
