Typically I get to the gym 4 days a week. I will do 30 min's of cardio on the elliptical or bike, or 15 & 15 on both. Then I'll lift for 30-45 min's on either my upper or lower body. Now that summer is finally here in MN and we're a lot busier I don't have time to go consistently, some weeks I only get there twice. On the days I don't go, I'm still either walking the dogs, chasing the kid around, cleaning the house, playing a little tennis or golf - how fast would I lose muscle mass I've gained from lifting?Currently I'm doing a low calorie, low fat diet which has helped me shed the rest of my baby weight and I have been losing at least a pound a week, but now with not being able to lift, somewhat heavily, on a consistent basis I want to make sure I'm not losing a pound of muscle per week.

It takes a while to lose noticeable muscle mass - just like it took a while to gain it. Normally, 6-8 weeks before you'd really notice anything.

First of all when you go to the gym do cardio AFTER you lift weights. I don't know your weightlifting routine but you should always work out each muscle once a week. You can do a split workout routine where on the two days you go the gym one day you can workout back/chest the next day in the gym workout legs/shoulders. Then on the other day you don't go the gym try to buy some freeweights (you only need a few dumbells) and workout your arms. Since you're not trying to get big you can lift some light dumbells

It'll take about 3+ weeks for mass to go down, and about a month for strength to go down, but it won't go supper noticably as long as you stick to a good diet.

You can use dumbbell weights as easily at home as you can at the gym. Go get yourself a set or two for those days when you can't make it out of the house.
