| my 2 year old had been kicking her stall for a long time now. she is turned out everyday with another 2 year old and 2 older mares. she comes in at night for feeding and that is the only time she is in her stall. she kicks it so hard she has broken boards in her stall, ive had to replace an entire wall because of her kicking. she gets plenty of exercise and attention. i dont know why she does it, but i need her to stop. im afraid she is going to hurt herself. i have tried kicking chains and they did nothing, ive tried taking her out and walking her, ive tried yelling, throwing stuff lol. nothing has worked. im thinking about a shock collar but dont really wanna go there. any other ideas?!?! im also thinking about getting her a pasture buddy and keeping her outside 24/7 |

Well as you probably know, kicking stalls is a vice. Please don't yell, and never ever throw things at her. Shock collars....no. Don't avoid the situation by turning her out 24/7, but if this gets worse you might have to rely on it. Bring her in for feeding, leave her in for 10 minutes after that, then turn her out. Do this for a week, next week, leave her in for 15 extra minutes, and hang around the corner so every time she acts up you simply walk up and tell her strictly, but not yelling, "No." Look her in the eyes. Keep working this up, and turn her out overnight until she works out of kicking. Good luck! |

| Some friends of mine are professional horse trainers specializing in Saddlebreds and Hackney ponies. When they get one like yours they have these things they strap around their ankles. There's a piece of wood, kind of cylindrical shaped, that hangs down from the strap. Every time the horse paws, the wood hits them in the leg/foot. After 5 or 6 times of this, most of them stop and learn to stand in the stalls quietly. It doesn't hurt them, it just provides enough discomfort that they stop.I hope this helps. |
