| I sprained my ankle & tore a muscle under my arch about 1 1/2 months ago. Still pretty tender. I need cushioning as well as support. Have a wide foot. Walk three 30 minute sessions in gym at work and walk 4.5 miles at home outside in the afternoon. |

| The best answer to that is individualized to you. You definitely don't want to just go into a big box sporting goods store and buy whatever looks pretty. Find a specialized store in your city that is specifically for runners (they should have walking shoes as well). Many will provide you with a free "gait analyses" where they watch you walk or run and find out whether you under or over pronate, how high your arch is etc. They will then match you with a number of shoes appropriate for this and have you walk in them. They'll be able to suggest the best ones based on your width as well. While in the store ask about fit guarantees. The store I go to allows me to return my shoes within 30 days if they don't fit me right. If you go to a good running store I am certain they will help you a lot. I used to buy mine based on looks and low price until I tried this once. 80% of my goot pain problems went away once I got the right pair of shoes for me. |
