| I have no shoppers or exercise experts in my life to get me pointed in the right direction. Where in heck do I go for shoes anyhow? Wal Mart has just cheap feet killers, I think. Aside from the cheap garbage from Wal Mart, I get my boots at the feed store and they don't sell walking shoes there. I need to get in better shape. All the ladies my age (those I am interested in anyhow) exersize and are in pretty good shape. I need to at least be able to walk with them without huffing and puffing or sitting down for an hour every five minutes because my feet, legs and back are killing me. Also, I need to build up a bit of cardio something or other so my heart doesn't stop if I need to take the stairs. Thanks for your kind help and advice!Alan |

| Walking is great exercise to build up your endurance. When you go to the shoe store, there will be an area with walking shoes in the athetic shoe department. Most of these would be fine. The key is to try them on and make sure that they are comfortable. When you exercise, start out slow and build up to longer periods. It may not be the shoes that are causing the leg and back pain, especially if you are huffing and puffing. It sounds like you just need to get back in shape. If you do a little everyday, it won't be long until you are in better shape. Good Luck. |

| Running shoes or crostrainers would be best..any sport store would have them or look at... www.roadrunnersports.comotherwise "light hikers" at ems.com or rei.com if you are more for the off road type of thing. Look to spend anywhere from $75 to $125 for a decent shoe. I recommend trying them on first so the on line thing is just for Ideas/info. Good luck. |

I agree with gk's answer - cross trainers or light hikers are what I use for walking and even though light hikers allow you to off road and you may not want to do much track walking - they tend to have better support and construction, may cost a bit more though. I completely recommend going to a store and have a proper fitting done - your feet are the foundation of everything and if you don't get the right support at the bottom, ankles, knees, hips, and back can suffer down stream. A proper store that does proper fittings is best if you have one in your area. All the best - walking is great |
