I was wondering, around how many calories could you burn off when cycling for 3 miles on the third gear.Let's say a 180 pounds (12.9 stone) man cycling on flat land at a normal speed.

Not enough information to give a more accurate answer, but probably less than 100, maybe less than 50.

It is hard to say, tell us is it uphill, downhill, flat, some of all, paved road, dirt track, mud, road bike, mountain bike, how much you weigh, etc. A 180 pound guy biking hard can burn around 400-600 calories an hour.
