Best book for me was a book called body for life by bill Phillips. It details every workout and every meal. Can see similar results to what is in book in 90 days. I was about your weight and same height when I did this program and it worked. Good luck.www.bodyforlife.com

The best way rite now is the 300 workout which is 300 pull ups 300 crunches 300 sit ups, i myself am overweight (230, 5 ft 10) and have recently started this workout on smaller level the beautiful part about having fat is you can turn it to muscle more easily then some1 without fat but at the same time you have to watch out for what you eat if you are working out extremely do not diet and starve yourself and your body of nutrition's rather then that eat food more often but healthy to gain energy and strengthBTW body weight resistance work-out are considered to be better then gym machines even in NAVY SEALS the whole work out is compromised of weight resistance check it on their website.

Steer clear of any popularized diets, just find something you can stick to....it all comes down to just cutting out some calories from your diet and of course excersize... something around 97% of all people that lose weight gain it back within 5 years, so if you want to diet you need a plan you can stick to for the rest of your life, which is why atkins and weight watchers is just plain unrealistic for most people....start drinkinkg skim milk instead of soda, eat less, maybe get half your meal to go when you go out to eat....And of course get into a habit of regular excersize...A common mistake is actually too much running, this doesnt necessarily ensure a better body. Trust me, it happened to me, I would run 5 miles a day and I got better at running, but saw little results in my body. The key is a very good amount of weight lifting, working ALL the muscles of your body (not just the arms and chest) and still get in some cardio in everyday (30-45 minutes a day would be good)....Try not to put a time frame on it, thats another fatal mistake...what if it does take you 5 years to get that body you want? Either way 5 years is going to come, whether you diet and excersize or not....The choice is yours, do you want to be overweight in 5 years, or have the body of your dreams?

Yeah look a year's definitely a reasonable timeframe to start getting in shape properly, I'm glad you're realistic.I think the key is to avoid miracle potions/diets, and remember that nothing beats good exercise coupled with a good diet.I'm Australian so pardon the metric... it's healthy to aim to lose 1kg every week. So the 2 components:DietDon't go high-protein! 50-60% good carbohydrates (pasta, bread, potato...etc), less than 30% fat (look at the packets, go for unsaturated fat if possible), then 10-15% protein (still allows for a good steak... a few nights a week). Alcohol... try to cut down on the beers... that's your 4 sources of energy (yep alcohol provides energy) :)ExerciseI say do some cross-training so you don't get bored. You've gotta exercise for 1 year remember, and you don't want it to feel like a bad job (otherwise you'll just quit).I don't know your background but if you're coming from nothing with exercise then start with jogging and swimming 4 times a week. Maybe 2 days jogging, 2 days swimming... aim for an hour each time, but anything more than 30 minutes is good.Give that 2-3 months then startup some weights. The thing with weights is to start off doing a low weight with high reps for say 4 months. Then you can start increasing the weight and lowering the reps. Ideally you'll be doing 3 sets of 12 reps of a weight that's about 70% of your max.Couple this (maybe 3 days a week) with the jogging and swimming every other day and you'll be grand. When it starts to get boring think of other activities... weights and jogging are good, but how about boxing, or tennis? Team sports are great for the social aspect, but I find they're not too good if you specifically want to lose weight, they'll probably make you fitter, but most teams train 1 or 2 days a week and have beers after the weekend game. That's great, but if you want to lose weight, might not be ideal.
