| I have been doing 30 mins a day on my stationary bike (at high speed) and want to go up to an hour a day, sometimes 90 mins. I have already been doing the 30 mins for several months, along with speed walking... Will I gain muscle weight if I up my time and do 60-90 mins a day, with a few days where I walk for 2 hours instead? I REALLY want to not gain weight from the exercise I do, but want to exercise enough to eat reasonably well and not have to starve myself. (I keep to a healthy, low fat diet) |

| What you are doing is called cardio, which is pretty much the opposite of gaining weight. If you start doing it longer, you will simply be burning more calories. So don't worry about it. |

| You can build muscle from cycling (and any cardio) - compared to anaerobic fitness it will usually not be much, but you can make gains. Professional cyclists often have huge calves and quads and most of their exercise is from cardio. Don't worry about gaining some muscle in your legs - one) it's healthy, two) muscle burns fat so you will keep fat off easier, three) you are a girl and therefore lack the testosterone to get huge like a man. You might get a bit of muscle, but you won't turn into the hulk. |
