I ask because cycling at a vigorous pace on a stationary bike seems to burn off a lot more calories than brisk walking. Thus far, I have done 30 mins vigorous cycling and an hour speed walking per day but it is so time consuming. Would an hour on the cycle be enough?

I find I get a better overall workout by walking since walking uses every muscle in your body, verses biking which is a GREAT cardio workout but uses more of your lower body muscles sooo biking outdoors is more challenging due to the changes in terrain! Plus, the fresh air does your body (and spirit) good. I do both

Actually mix it up.. One day walk, the other do the bike. That way you don't get bored.. I do the elliptical at the gym. Usually 30 minutes daily and then today(Sunday) I do some vigorous hiking for 2 hrs. I have a road bike for racing, but hurt my back last year so running and cycling are not in my exercise regime now.. Good luck!

The calories burned off doesn't matter as much as putting in at least 30 min of cardiovascular exercise. Switching up your cardio activity is beneficial because it prevents you from getting bored, plus giving the body a variety of exercises yields more weight loss and muscle gain.
