| I don't have the money for classes or even videos for yoga, dance, pilates, etc. I'd like to be able to do the splits by June. May anyone recommend specific stretches or links to free techniques to flexibility? Thanks for the help! |

| Do the splits as far as you can go, and hold it for a long time, do that a few times a day. |

| Take things slowly, maybe take up yoga. Your body will not just bend because you want it to. If you arent used to stretching extensively, your muscles will be tense. Over time, your muscles will loosen and relax.Muscle tenseness may not be the problem, though. Some people dont have bone structures that allow them to bend like the gymnastics on television.Experiment, but know your boundaries. If you go too hard too fast, you may end up hurting yourself.Good luck! |

| By stretching. But stretching is actually a workout on its own if done correctly. The basics. Warm up the body. Jog in place, do jumping jacks, etc for 5 min. Then you can develop a stretch routine that works the whole body or parts of the body. You should be flexible throughout. It helps your athletic performance, your health, your injury prevention, and will make you able to do the splits. The splits is only 1 particular stretch. But if that's your main goal, you have to just keep stretching every day to gain more flexibility. Don't over do it because you can rip your muscle and connective tissues. But stretch to the point where you feel the stretch, hold the stretch while breathing deeply. Never hold your breathe. Just breathe through it. Hold it for 15-20 seconds, release, shake it out, then repeat. I like to do a stretch on a muscle about 4-5 times. You can even do it 2-3 times a day spread out throughout the day. For the splits, sit on your butt, spread your legs apart as wide as you can, and then put your hands together at a point and try to reach as far out toward the middle of your legs as you can and just hang there. After a few weeks you should be able to spread your legs apart more and go lower. You will be able to do the splits when you can put your face on the ground while your legs are basically spread eagle. |
